Merry Christmas Everyone - Tracking Santa

Keeping Up With Santa on Christmas Eve

By Angeline Sheridan & Naida December 18, 2024

Kids of all ages can track Santa's every move on noradsanta.org - for FREE.  For more than 50 years, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) have tracked Santa's flight.  The tradition began in 1955 after an advertisement for kids to call Santa misprinted the telephone number.  The wrong number put kids through the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations hotline.  Colonel Harry Shoup, the Director of Operations at the time and the first NORAD Santa tracker had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole.   Children who called were given updates on Santa's whereabouts, and thus, a holiday tradition was born.

Now everyone can track Santa by visiting NORAD's website !  On December 24th, high-tech, high-speed digital Santa Cams will be capturing images and videos of Santa and his reindeer as they make their amazing journey across the globe!  You can even follow Santa from your mobile phone!

Over the years, this website has developed to include educational videos about Santa's many stops throughout the world, creating not only a venue for kids to see when Santa might be showing up in their neighborhoods to ensure they are fast asleep in time, but also an amazing experience where all can learn about different countries and cities through articles, additional websites, and even fun videos.

My kids and I have enjoyed this website every year and love clicking on all the video icons to learn about the different areas in the world. It's a great Christmas Eve family tradition we appreciate and look forward to yearly, right after our local neighborhood drive with hot chocolate, candy canes, and holiday music to enjoy everyone's fabulous Christmas decorations!

You may want to add this web experience to your Christmas Eve traditions as well!
